The Jablanica Valley
The Jablanica Valley, located east of Šmartno pri Litiji, spreads from Breg pri Litiji to Cerovica and Bukovica, and further across the slopes up to Mamolj and Gradišče pri Litiji. The valley includes 12 settlements: Breg pri Litiji, Bukovica, Tenetiše, Gradiške Laze, Jablaniške Laze, Dolgo Brdo, Mamolj, Gradišče pri Litiji, Spodnja and Zgornja Jablanica, Cerovica and Selšek. The valley is surrounded by the Hills of Posavje in the north and by Hills of Dolenjska in the south. The valley’s trademark is the apple, since the typical idyllic landscape is due to the high-stem meadow orchards, particularly the apple trees. The name of a feudal family originated from the Jablanica castle (German: Apfalter) as early as in the 13th century. Along the Jablanica stream is fertile land with fields and meadows, all carefully cultivated. In the hilly marl land, vineyards spread out, while the fields are in terraces. The beech forests in the surrounding area are rich with wildlife and attract gatherers of mushrooms.

The Church of St. Ana in Zgornja Jablanica
There used to be a chapel originating from 1520 and later pulled down where nowadays the Baroque church stands. The year of construction (1755) is inscribed in the façade stone on the church’s belfry.
Hayracks
Many double hayracks (toplars) are preserved in this area, decorating the landscape of the Jablanica Valley. One of these is also in the hamlet of Selšek.
The Majec Granary (Slovene Majčeva kašča)
In the centre of Zgornja Jablanica, where the harvest is stored even today, is a memory of a vibrant social life in the village. Young men from the village would gather here, hang out, sing, stage plays and do their farming work together.
